Info: The first in a series of shots I did for a movie storyboard in my storyboarding and animatics class. This is the opening shot right after the title screen and showcases an extreme close up of a crow's eye. When I was doing this picture the first thing that came to mind was to make the eye realistic enough so that whomever was looking at the picture would have an idea of what it was. Because of that I took great care in making the glow inside the eye as well as the texture around it soft and believable.

Info: The second in a series of shots I did for a movie storyboard in my storyboarding class. This shot shows the crow from before as it caws menacingly while a heavy rainstorm surges all around it. I had to use a lot of reference materials for this shot. I thumbed through a few encyclopedias to make sure my crow was accurate. I also used a bit of reference shots for my rain effects. The thing that was key here had to be the mood and lighting. I felt satisifed with the way the gloomy skies added a depressing quality to the shot. I knew that if I nailed the first big shot I would have an easier time establishing the same mood throughout the rest of the storyboard. In the end I think it came out all right.

Info: The third in a series of shots I did for a movie storyboard in my storyboarding and animatics class. Just a straight up environmental shot of a small lake during the storm. Nothing really difficult about this one except for some of the rain effects. The purpose of this shot is to establish a sense of space and to showcase the intensity of the thunderstorm.

Info: The fourth in a series of shots I did for a movie storyboard in my storyboarding and animatics class. This is the establishing shot of the protagonist. My main goal was to make him look serious and determined and not seemingly intimidated by where he was going. This is definitely one of my favorite shots due to how the rain effects came out in terms of the interaction with the main character. The mood I was going for in the beginning was a bit different, but I decided to add a darker tone (rainstorm and all) when I began my final storyboard designs as it was truer to my book as well.

Info: The fifth in a series of shots I did for a movie storyboard in my storyboarding and animatics class. The rule of nines is in play here (making the hero seem small and insignificant) with an ominous cathedral as the centerpiece. The worm's eye view helps show the dread the hero is feeling while he looks at his destination. I used the cathedral picture I had done before, but I skewed it in such a way so that the perspective became much more interesting. I also added more lighting effects to better suit the mood I was going for.

Info: The sixth in a series of shots I did for a movie storyboard in my storyboarding and animatics class. A simple silhouette shot of the hero looking into the cathedral. Once again my main focus was simply on the lighting and overall mood.

Info: The seventh in a series of shots I did for a movie storyboard in my storyboarding and animatics class. I usually don't like to recycle older pictures, but with this shot I knew I had already done a piece just like it for myself earlier. I had been waiting for a chance to update and rework it, and here it was. I changed the intensity of the lighting as well as the amount of darkness in the piece. The addition of the warrior standing in the doorway and looking down the hall was also new.

Info: The eighth in a series of shots I did for a movie storyboard in my storyboarding and animatics class. This is the villain's establishing shot as he appears in a vision while the hero heads down the cathedral hallway. Main focus was definitely on presenting him here as a Stygian, dark figure. I think the strong moonlit backdrop helped emphasize that.

Info: The ninth in a series of shots I did for a movie storyboard in my storyboarding and animatics class. A full shot depicting the villain sitting atop the altar and awaiting the hero. I like the overall mood here, but the rough sketch I started with was rather poor due to lack of time. It is always easier to do a polished piece of art when the original design and sketch is strong, such has been my experience. Here I struggled to get something decent out of it. It's not bad, but I would have really liked to flesh out the columns and the pews instead of dousing them in darkness

Info: The tenth in a series of shots I did for a movie storyboard in my storyboarding and animatics class. This is another close up of the main villain but this time without the mask. I love the overall lighting effect here with the stained glass window (not my original image) and the reflections on the villain's costume. I wanted to show that he's an evil entity who will not stray from his chosen path.

Info: The eleventh in a series of shots I did for a movie storyboard in my storyboarding and animatics class. The climactic shot in my storyboard where the two rivals face each other moments before their bloody duel. One of my favorites in the entire series due to the lighting (once again) and mood. I like the fact that only the dark silhouettes of the figures are visible and yet the evil figure is clearly discernible in the shadows due to his phosphorescent eyes. Yeah~!
