Daughter of Darkness

Medium: Pencil and pen sketches on regular paper, coloring completed in Photoshop
Info: This was the last project for my scene design class. The assignment called for two mood pieces featuring characters from our proposed movie/game. For both I decided to use a split design with each side representing one character or mood. Here I went with the villain (Vragar) once more and a heroine in my books, his daughter Mina. Each character has an army under their wing, but while Vragar fights alongside the legions of chaos Mina sides with the forces of light and order. For the sorcerer I used a sketch I had done a little while ago because I had always wanted to paint it. I was pleased with how the little details on him came out (the scars and glows), and I think the moon looked pretty neat as well. With Mina the biggest challenge was getting her colors to match the piece. In this version the overall design is more uniform, but it also makes it a bit harder to separate the two sides. In the other version (mouse over the picture to see it) Mina's side is much brighter so the viewer can see the distinction between good and evil more clearly. The characters also have a glowing outline to separate them from the background. It's hard to say which I like better as both have little touches which I like. The one thing I would change is that the army on the right looks just as dark as the one on the left.
Extras: To see an alternate version of this piece simply mouse over the pic.
