Medium: 3D Studio Max 7
Info: A straight ahead render of my game cabinet scene. This was the first real time I was working with a photorealistic goal in mind with my 3D. After extensive texture and photo work I was able to get it to look pretty much dead on like the real thing. All the textures (DVD spines, CD labels, etc.) were hand scanned and brought into Photoshop for tweaking and then into 3D Studio Max. A painstakingly slow process but one which yielded the results I was looking for. The lighting was also something I tried to copy to a tee from real life.

Medium: 3D Studio Max 7
Info: An overhead render of the cabinet scene. With up close renders it's much easier to see the high level of detail in all the texture work I put into the project. One of my favorite shots.

Medium: 3D Studio Max 7
Info: A more dramatic, low shot here. The CD spindle was a bit tricky to make since the material was a plastic/glass hybrid which I had never made, but with perseverance and a lot of time to experiment, I was able to get it right.

Info: One of the many reference shots I used when constructing the game cabinet. This shot was so appealing to me that I decided to have one of my main renders showcase this very camera angle.

Info: One of the many reference shots I used when constructing the game cabinet. This shot gives a nice overview of the entire scene I was trying to emulate complete with lighting and shadows.

Medium: 3D Studio Max 7
Info: A nice overhead shot with the camera pulled back a bit. Once again, the lighting was very instrumental in bringing out a certain level of detail from the numerous textures.

Medium: 3D Studio Max 7
Info: An additional render showcasing a high angle shot inside the game cabinet.

Medium: 3D Studio Max 7
Info: A wireframe render of the entire scene which shows the amount of detail put into the many models. Being that the class I was in was titled materials and lighting that's exactly what was responsible for giving this project its realism factor. The construction is pretty basic overall.

Info: A wide shot of the scene. Here it's a bit easier to see the way lighting was implemented in the project as a whole.

Medium: 3D Studio Max 7
Info: A skylight render of my scene. Here I was still trying to figure out my lighting scheme and whether to model any more of the environment around the cabinet.
Completed on: 8/8/2005
Medium: 3D Studio Max 7
Info: An early render of my scene. Here I had just finished modeling out the actual cabinet and was beginning to build some of the items which would be inside the cabinet like the CD spindle and memory cards.
Completed on: 8/8/2005
Medium: 3D Studio Max 7
Info: Another early render of my scene. I had just finished modeling and texturing the game cases and hadn't built any of the accessories in the cabinet or set up a lighting rig. Very beginning in the project timeline...
