Web
Backgrounds/Logos

A collection of some of my old web backgrounds I had
done for my brother and his website.
Completed on: 3/30/2006
Medium: Straight coloring and image manipulation in Photoshop
Info: One day I decided to dig up the old logo design I once constructed for my brother and play around with it and came up with two new versions which I might actually use for myself. If I ever get a chance to finish my music album then I decided that using this logo for the CD cover might be a good idea. This one is a bit more flashy and vibrant so right now I'm leaning towards it for the spot on the CD cover.
Extras: There is an available print of this logo in the store under commissioned works prints.

Info: I also did a few backgrounds for my brother's website. I love the way this one came out. The gold symbol which I used is inspired by the business logo you can view in the same commissioned works gallery. Overall this piece was one of my favorites, but for every positive there was also a negative. For one the motif worked great with the website since it is my brother's business and having his logo in the background gets the message across. The dark background is also usually very good for making light text and images "pop" so that the viewer doesn't strain their eyes too much (which is my reason for having my site so dark). The only problem was that the symbol interfered with how the site was laid out and made things too hard to see on many of the web pages. Oh, well. I still like it even due to its minimalist nature.

Info: Same design as the first except here I went with a lot of light tones as opposed to darks. Came out better than I thought, but the original problem remained. The text was visible and clear against the background, but the logo still interfered on a lot of the pages and made things unnecessarily difficult to decode. So in the end it just became another design to be stored in the Greg archives, destined to never see the light of day except on this web site.

Info: This ended up being the background my brother ended up using for his site. It was the perfect fit since everything was easy to read, and it didn't have any unnecessary clutter which would distract the viewer. I like the calm nature of it, and it took me a few tries to get the watery surface just like I wanted it. In the end I threw a good 'ol lens flare to make things all the more pretty (yeah I know it's an old trick but give me a break. I was tired). It really does work well as a background, and it makes the site all the more cheerful. Maybe I should brighten things up around here as well :)

This one is a bit more subdued, but I do like the overall flow going on here.
